Dr. Sergiu Socea is an ophthalmologist and cataract surgeon who serves as a senior cataract surgeon at the “Mayan Medical Center” in Haifa and is in charge of the Cataract and Anterior Segment Trauma service in the Opthalmology Department at Rambam Medical Center in Haifa.

He completed his medical studies in Cluj-Romania and specialized in ophthalmology at Rambam Hospital. His areas of expertise include, among others: cataract, corneal disease treatment, and trauma to the anterior segment of the eye.

He is responsible for many important scientific publications in the ophthalmology literature and participated in numerous international conferences, both abroad and Israel.

Dr. Socea collaborates with international companies developing ophthalmology-related medical devices, and was a member of the humanitarian delegation sponsored by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Cameroon, Africa, where he helped to restore the vision of local patients by performing cataract surgery.

In 2010 and 2014 Dr. Socea was granted the prestigious Outstanding Worker Award at the Rambam Medical Center in Haifa.

Nowadays, within the framework of his activities in the department in Rambam Hospital, Dr. Socea trains and guides ophthalmology interns in their routine activities and during surgery. He also takes an active and significant role in teaching medical students from the Technion Faculty of Medicine.

Dr. Socea is one of the leader cataract surgeons in Northern Israel, works and operates in Kupat Holim Leumit, and consults and operates under contract with the Clal, Phoenix, and Ayalon insurance companies.
